Hi All

For the last year I have had a small lump in the underneath of my upper arm midway between my elbow and armpit It has been sore but for the last few days it has become really painful and feels like someone is sticking a needle into it. I have mentioned it to my doctor previously but he said he does not know what it is (very helpful).

I wondered if this was connected to RA or medication? Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Hi Jackie

I don't know of any connection with RA but you never know! I think it is so easy to put everything down to the RA because it is so complicated and diverse. You don't say what your Dr has advised but you definitely need to get it checked out by someone. I would ring rheumatology and tell them. If they say it is nothing to do with Ra you need go back to your doctor and ask for a referral to get it checked out. Good luck.

Hi Jackie

I can t give you any real advice, but as your GP is at a lost, best to have it checked out with your consultant. I did have a lumpy thingy on my hand, and had it aspirated once by my consultant, as it was getting very painful. Then during one night in bed it really played up and after that it appearead to burst and go, although I still have a big lump on my wrist ( doesn t hurt ) been told it is just a nodule. There are so many oddities with RA, I wouldn t be surprised to learn that your lump on your arm is connected to RA.

Hope the pain calms down, and you can get it sorted out.

Hi Jackie,

You don't say wether or not lump is behind the arm or on one side, whether it feels hard or soft, also do you have any problems with the shoulder joint?

It is remotely possible that it is sinovial fluid leaking from the shoulder joint. I have suffered a similar problem below my elbow which is put down to this problem and I agree it is extremely painful. There is a relucance by my rheumy and surgeon to operate because of inherent difficulties to the nerve system which is just below the elbow. I would think there should be no problem with the upper arm.

This is only a suggestion so try and get a scan or MRI.

Thanks for your replies.

Clive - The lump is in the fleshy part of the back of my arm half way down between my elbow and armpit. The lump is hard. I do get pains in both shoulders and put this down to RA.

I need to speak to my GP again as it is not getting any better and it is still painful after taking Tramadol. I do have private medical insurance so could easily get a scan. Just need to find the energy to visit GP yet again - I was only there last week and I always leave saying "see you soon" BigGrin as he is now learning the perils of RA. I am the only person in our practice who has RA and I am teaching our GP's about RA.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Jackie
